VIDA bioenergy Glentham

Location Glentham

VIDA started construction of its first biomethane production plant in the UK in June 2023 and it is currently in commissioning with first gas due to be injected into the National Transmission System (NTS) in Q1 2025. The plant, VIDA bioenergy Glentham Ltd (VBG), will produce over 60 GWh of biomethane annually, enough to heat over 5,200 homes.

About the project

The plant will process organic waste streams from agriculture, such as straw, chicken manure and potato waste, as well as sequential crops grown as part of a sustainable farming rotation to improve soil fertility. This will help reduce the UK’s dependency on fossil fuels and contribute to the country’s sustainability goals.

In addition to biomethane, the facility will produce digestate, an organic fertiliser, which will be used locally to replace synthetic fossil-based fertilisers and enrich the soil with organic material.

In addition to green gas, the facility will produce organic digestate, which will be used locally to replace fossil-based fertilisers and enrich the soil with organic material. Commercial operations at the facility are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025.

This development is part of VTTI’s strategy to invest in sustainable forms of energy storage,  processing and production, and the facility will be part of VTTI’s growing portfolio of bio-energy facilities in Europe.
