Breda, the Netherlands, July 2 – VIDA bioenergy is pleased to announce the safe and successful start-up of its Bernheze biomethane facility, marking the commencement of biomethane production and injection into the Dutch gas grid.
This achievement represents an important milestone in VIDA bioenergy’s mission to accelerate the energy transition to a sustainable, circular future. By locally producing renewable bioenergy, the company helps provide affordable and reliable energy to communities while reducing carbon emissions. Following its first gas injection on 28 April, the facility is now ramping up towards its full production capacity of 8 million cubic metres of biomethane per year.

Bernheze is VIDA bioenergy’s second operational plant in the Netherlands and the third operating site across its portfolio.
Strategically located in one of the Netherlands’ highest-density livestock regions, the facility is designed to process approximately 72,000 tonnes of agricultural feedstock annually. Through anaerobic digestion and upgrading technologies, this feedstock is converted into renewable biomethane and approximately 14,000 tonnes of digestate, which is returned to the agricultural sector as an organic fertilizer.
By producing renewable gas and supporting nutrient recycling, the facility contributes to greenhouse gas reduction, strengthens domestic renewable energy supply, and promotes a more circular agricultural economy.
The successful delivery of the Bernheze facility reflects the commitment and teamwork of employees, contractors, partners, local authorities, farmers, and stakeholders who supported the project from development through to operation.
